Broadening Reach Without Diluting The Brand

Corking Wines already had a very loyal following amongst those with a nose, but felt their product range warranted a much wider audience.

CW’s owners, David and Yvonne, knew that continuing to serve a small number of niche clients without expanding further made little business sense, so a change of direction was required. Ignoring growth would, after all, simply result in a downward spiral to stagnation, and the death of an otherwise solid small business.

In short, Corking Wines needed a robust Ecommerce SEO strategy to maintain their strong relationship with existing clients whilst simultaneously expanding their customer base.

Having a website is one thing, but finding paying visitors is quite another, as CW’s owner David explains:

“Just like everyone else, we started looking for a suitable solution by Googling online. We didn’t know the name of any digital marketing companies, so we simply started looking at page one results for SEO York

Finding Corking Wines’ Bottleneck

Once instructed, Edge45® set about finding the obstacles that stood between Corking Wines’ current situation and their future success. We looked at how they positioned themselves online and then identified why their traffic and sales were nowhere near where they should have been.

Our results turned up a threefold problem:

  • Visibility: Corking Wines’ website wasn’t ranking for relevant search terms commonly used by the general public, thus making their business effectively invisible online.
  • Navigation: If visitors did manage to find their way to CW’s website, navigation was poor and important points, such as pricing, were unclear. This left visitors uneasy, and they were quickly dropping off the site without making a purchase.
  • Motivation: Side-by-side comparisons with competitors websites exposed CW’s online presence as uninspiring and colourless, providing the few visitors they had with little motivation to buy into their brand.
